I. Can't. Do. It.
I used the "one click" installation that Bluehost.com provides, but learned that's not the most recent version of WordPress. I can't figure out how to install the newest version. (I can download it, but things go downhill from here.) I'm not disparaging either organization. It's me, not them. I am "Web site hosting/building/whatevering challenged."
Anyway...
Now, I can't even remember how to get to the "one click" installation version, so I can see how that works.
Argh...
I am going to take a nap.
Any suggestions are welcome. My husband will be waiting for your comments. It's his "job" to work on this while I'm napping. Or for the rest of his life. Whatever it takes.
Seriously, I'm going to nap now. I've been saying that for 2 hours, but I'm not kidding this time.
Really.
Technology is great... when it works.
(Do you think I need to purchase "WordPress for Dummies"?)
O.k., here I go. Up the stairs. To the bed.
See you in a couple of hours.
O.k., I had to come back down to fix a typo Ed found.
GOOD NIGHT!

1. I don't know anything about bluehost.com but you need to go to Wordpress.org and obtain the latest release of Wordpress to make your life easier. (download here)
2. Once you do that follow the Wordpress set up: Installation.
It was hard for me to install the first time too. If you need help, I'll help you.
To make it easy on myself I went into an empty frectis.net directory and deleted the default home page, THEN I put the fresh copy of Wordpress files-- not the wordpress folder as bundle-- there (my blog IS frectis.net so all my files are open in that spot rather than frectis.net/blog/ where then the wordpress files would have to be opened in the /blog/ level). Then I adjusted the wp-config.php page as directed with the MySql info from my host and then you can get on with the actual fun part :)
Hah. I tried to install it myself and killed my blog. I wrote about the travesty last weekend. I'm totally fine with my outdated wordpress!
I just woke from a nap. I love naps. I live for naps. I'm like a 75-year old man trapped in a 29-year old body. Naps rock. Why did we ever fight them as children?
No typo is going to keep me from my nap, nor should it you.
BTW, thanks for the comment. But you didn't leave me anything to advice on.
And I enjoy you're blog, too. I faved it.
Oh, Oh. Stay away from moveable type is sucks (just sayin'). When I signed up for wordpress it transfered everything over for me. But it didn't work on my library list and so I stuck around here.
That's it.
Hope I didn't wake you!
Hi Rebecca and thank you for visiting my site today and leaving a comment. So you and my granddaughter almost have the same wedding anniversary date.
I know absolutely nothing about what you are trying to do. Wish I could be of help. Sorry.
You have a cute personality, and I hope you visit me again soon.
OK. First of all do you have FTP access to your host?
Do you have an ftp program that you know how to use?
Is the bluehost.com wordpress installation up and running?
If the answer to these three questions is yes, than you should download the automatic upgrade plug in.
Unzip it and upload it to your wordpress plugin directory.
Activate it.
Then run it.
If the answer to one of the first three questions is no, please email me and I will try and help.
I feel your pain! Wordpress has killed my blog three times by me trying to install it and by now, I've just thrown my hands up. I'll stick with blogger in the meantime, I GUESS.
Sigh :)
Thanks for stopping through my blog! I love new readers.
If you have FTP access to your host (which you should - if you don't, get another host. FTP access shouldn't be an added extra), just upload the files onto the server, overwriting the ones that are already there.
I've had to do this a few times in the past couple of weeks, so I know it can be a bit of a steep learning curve. If there's anything I can do to help you get it installed, let me know.
Thanks, everyone!
